The Headland Way
We started with one question:
"Why is every café
around here the same?"

Newport had plenty of places to get coffee. What it didn't have was somewhere that felt like it actually belonged here — somewhere with food that changed with the seasons, coffee that was properly sourced and properly made, and a room that made you want to stay longer than you planned.

That's what we set out to build in 2018. The menu changes every few weeks based on what's good right now. The coffee comes from a rotating lineup of Australian roasters who share our standards. And the room — well, you'll just have to come in and see it.

Our Story

Started by two people
who just wanted a
proper café.

Laura and Tom had both worked in hospitality for years before opening Headland. They knew exactly what they wanted to build — and exactly what they wanted to avoid.

No laminated menus. No food that's been sitting under heat lamps. No coffee from a bag with a cafe's name stamped over someone else's work. Just honest food, properly sourced coffee, and a room that feels like it belongs to the neighbourhood.
